Spring Break Part II

The second day of our trip began with a visit to the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Erected on the actual site of the experimental flights are the markers for the four flights that successfully lifted off, up on the nearby hillside is the beautiful memorial of the brothers and a replica statue of the first flight, and indoors is a museum on the history of flying and a separate museum dedicated to modern flying ventures. The boys loved the scavenger hunt they were given by the rangers to learn about flying and to become Jr. Park Rangers. The souvenir planes they brought home were also a big hit.

After lunch and a quick nap we headed to the popular sand dunes. Our neighbors had told us we had to visit Jockey's Ridge State Park, home of the tallest sand dunes on the Eastern Seaboard. It was a lot of fun, but I was surprised at how small they seemed compared to the larger dunes at Bruneau. However, one of the best things about the dunes was the amazing view of the ocean and the large flat areas up top for kite flying.
