Spring Break Trip

With the boys off of school for the week we took a few days to visit the historic and charming area of Kitty Hawk. Our schedule was jam packed with places to visit. First, we made the drive northeast to Roanoke Island, the site of the lost colony. It was a beautiful drive with lots of long bridges to cross over to make it to the Outer Banks. Roanoke Island Festival Park is located in the present day town of Manteo, NC. The Island has a replica of the 16th century Elizabeth II ship that carried the settlers from England, a restored Algonquian Indian town, and a settlement site area complete with working blacksmiths and replicas of what life was like for the English inhabitants. We also walked through the Roanoke Adventure Museum with exhibits chronically the rich history of the area for the past 400 years. The boys loved every aspect of it and really enjoyed all the hands-on exhibits and outfits that they got to put on.

After Roanoke Island we headed to our hotel on the beach in Kitty Hawk. It was supposed to be pretty cold for the next couple of days, so after settling in we headed to the beach while the weather was still in the 60's. The kids had a great time building sandcastles, burying each other, and collecting shells. While Daddy took a well deserved nap.
